A fitting farewell to Athens.
(but not in the existing stadium)
Ruin in the foreground is the Temple of the Olympian Zeus.
This is taken from the Acropolis.
Just wish there was a way I could display the entire panorama.
This BLOG covers my trip through southeastern Europe in late 2005. I started in Berlin, heading primarily southeast. The countries visited were, in this order, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and Switzerland. The trip took 3 months, and that wasn't nearly enough time to really appreciate it. Would I do it again? Absolutely!!!

Remains of an ancient Roman bridge crossing the Tiber.
The new bridge is behind it on the left
No, not a live monk, as I first thought when I saw it, but a painting on a wall.
The CD with my last few photos of Athens and the first ones from Rome bombed. No photos on it, so I wasn't able to include some of the sights I appreciated. Those included some of the Piazza Venezia, the Arch of Constantine and views of Roma from the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. Guess I'll just have to go back again. Anyone want to join me?
I posted more photos from Rome than anywhere else. I don't know if that means I'm getting less selective, or that there were more of what I considered good shots. I guess time will tell. Florence is next on the list.
(which you can't see)
More Colosseum. Note the passages and compartments that were under the false floor.
Saint Peter's Basilica. Pope Benedict under the canopy
Once I've uploaded 5 photos, I have to add additional photos one at a time, and even then I'm limited to a total of 10 photos. I think it'll be faster to simply upload 5 photos at once, and post them, then repeat the process with a new post.
So here goes the new method. Hope it turns out to be a bit faster.
14th century church, Svet Petka Samardjiiska
Typical (well, not so typical) dinner in Sofia
Kebab, served vertically, salad, peppers, fries, and of course, a beer.
More of the Rila Monastery
Ivan Vazov National Theater, Sofia
Church in Sofia, but memory isn't too good, so I forgot which one
One of many beautiful murals at the Rila Monastery
Can you tell I was impressed by the Monastery?
If you are out there looking at these, let me know. Thanks
